君子之道，暗然而日章；小人之道，的然而日亡。君子之道，淡而不厌，简而文，温而理，知远之近，知风之自，知微之显，可与入德矣。
君子的为人之道是：外表暗淡无色而美德日见彰显。小人的为人之道是：外表色彩鲜明，但渐渐地消失了。君子的为人之道还在于：外表素淡而不使人厌恶，简朴而有文采，温和而又有条理，知道远是从近开始的，知道教化别人从自己做起，知道隐微的东西会逐渐显露，这样就进入圣人的美德中了。
樊迟问仁，孔子说：“对人慈爱。”问智，孔子说：“对人了解。”樊迟不理解。孔子说：“以正压邪，能使邪者正。”
