如切如磋,如琢如磨。
【原文】子贡曰:“贫而无谄,富而无骄,何如?”子曰:“可也。未若贫而乐,富而好礼者也。”子贡曰:“《诗》云:‘如切如磋,如琢如磨’,其斯之谓与?”子曰:“赐也,始可与言《诗》已矣,告诸往而知来者。”【译文】子贡说:“贫穷却不阿谀奉承,富贵却不狂妄自大,怎么样?”孔子说:“可以了。(但是)不如贫穷而乐于道,富贵而谦虚好礼的好。”子贡说:“完善自身的修养,既像雕刻骨器,又像雕刻象牙;既像雕琢玉器,又像雕刻石头一样下功夫,恐怕说得就是这个道理吧?”孔子说:“子贡啊,现在可以与你谈诗了。提起学过的知识,你就知道将要学的知识,并有所发挥。”
