I do not know what I may appear to the world， but to myself I seem to have been only like a boy playing on the sea-shore， and diverting myself in now and then finding a smoother pebble or a prettier shell than ordinary， whilst the great ocean of truth lay all undiscovered before me.
Don't interfere with anything in the Constitution. That must be maintained, for it is the only safeguard of our liberties. And not to Democrats alone do I make this appeal, but to all who love these great and true principles.
I have suffered and despaired and known death and I am glad that I am in this great world.
