用心才能明白道理，而用心要保持虚空、专一而安静。荀子认为，人们在以前已经学到了一些知识的情况下，再学新东西的时候，容易犯经验主义的错误。生活中也是这样，我们在遇到一件事时，总是容易按以往的经验去判断，这样可能是错的。最好能保持虚空的状态，专心地看待这件事，然后可以想想是否可以借鉴以往的经验。
