Give every man thy ear, but few thy voice; take each man’s censure,but reserve thy judgment.
Most people are other people. Their thoughts are someone else’s opinions, their lives a mimicry, their passions a quotation.
I never make the mistake of arguing with people for whose opinions I have no respect.
The quality of ideas seems to play a minor role in mass movement leadership. What counts is the arrogant gesture, the complete disregard of the opinion of others, the singlehanded defiance of the world.
