“理财”，若作为“生财”解，固是一件难事，作为“不亏空而略有储蓄”解，却也容易做到。只要有意志，有决心，不跟自己妥协，有狠心压制自己的fancy [一时的爱好]！老话说得好：开源不如节流。我们的欲望无穷，所谓“欲壑难填”，若一手来一手去，有多少用多少，即使日进斗金也不会觉得宽裕的。既然要保持清白，保持人格独立，又要养家活口，防旦夕祸福，更只有自己紧缩，将“出口”的关口牢牢把住。“入口”操在人家手中，你不能也不愿奴颜婢膝的乞求；“出口”却完全操诸我手，由我做主。你该记得中国古代的所谓清流，有傲骨的人，都是自甘淡泊的清贫之士。清贫二字为何连在一起，值得我们深思。我的理解是，清则贫，亦惟贫而后能清！我不是要你“贫”，仅仅是约制自己的欲望，做到量入为出，不能说要求太高吧！这些道理你全明白，无须我啰嗦，问题是在于实践。你在艺术上想得到，做得到，所以成功；倘在人生大小事务上也能说能行，只要及到你艺术方面的一半，你的生活烦虑也就十分中去了八分。古往今来，艺术家多半不会生活，这不是他们的光荣，而是他们的失败。失败的原因并非真的对现实生活太笨拙，而是不去注意，不下决心。因为我所谓“会生活”不是指发财、剥削人或是啬刻，做守财奴，而是指生活有条理，收支相抵而略有剩余。要做到这两点，只消把对付艺术的注意力和决心拿出一小部分来应用一下就绰乎有余了！
