Poetry is perhaps what teaches us to nurture the charming illusion: how to be reborn out of ourselves over and over again, and use words to construct a better world, a fictitious world that enables us to sign a pact for a permanent and comprehensive peace ... with life.
"A nation that destroys its soils destroys itself. Forests are the lungs of our land, purifying the air and giving fresh strength to our people."
The world is not what it seems to be; it is what we believe it to be.
"The past is a script we can’t stop rewriting."
"Wir sind nicht nur verantwortlich für das, was wir tun, sondern auch für das, was wir nicht tun."
"History is not just what happened, but what we remember and how we remember it."
"A good story is like a mirror that reflects the hidden corners of our souls."
Truth is not found in the light, but in the shadows where we dare not look.
We do not see things as they are; we see them as we are.
"Writing is the closest thing we have to magic."
"The past is never dead; it’s not even past until we’ve written it."
"The truth is not in the facts, but in the way we tell them."
"Reality is a cliché from which we escape by metaphor."
We are all trapped by our own narratives.
We are all given one thing by which our lives are measured, one determination.
The most dangerous illusions are those we mistake for reality.
The stories we tell shape the selves we become.
Fiction allows us to live multiple lives, to see through eyes not our own.
