孔子曰：“君子有三畏：畏天命、畏大人、畏圣人之言。小人不知天命而不畏也，狎大人，侮圣人之言。”
【译文】 孔子说：“君子有三件事要敬畏：敬畏自然规律、敬畏大人物、敬畏圣人的话。小人不懂自然规律因而也就不敬畏自然，不尊重大人物，戏侮圣人的言论。”

【释义】一个人如果能在暗中行善积德、不欺瞒他人，圣人会察觉并赞许，贤人会帮助他，天道也会眷顾他，人们因此喜爱他，鬼神则敬重他。他身处富贵而不失其财富与地位，灾祸不侵犯他，寿命也不会受到折损。劫难、火灾、水患等都远离他，最终可以保全性命，享完其应有的天寿。
