出自汉·桓宽《盐铁论·地广》。贱，指地位低。贫，指没有钱财。地位卑贱并不妨碍一个人的智慧，家境贫寒并不妨碍一个人的品行。这句话言评价一个人的才智、德行不能根据其社会地位、经济状况来作判断。出身低贱的人，不一定没有智慧；家境贫寒的人，不一定没有品行。
The end of history will be a very sad time.
